Why I don’t go to the cinema?

I love movies, I really do. You could safely call me a home cinephile. Why home? Well, it’s simple. I’m not a fan of going to the actual cinema. Too many people, and I don’t like people.

In a cinema, you encounter everything you shouldn’t: glowing smartphones, loud guffawing, rustling bags full of popcorn, and even running, screaming children. Yes, troglodytes are everywhere.

That’s why I’ve become a home cinephile. I eagerly await every new release that pops up on streaming platforms. Along the way, I’ve also gotten hooked on series – these services are full of them, and some are genuinely interesting and have captivated me immensely!

But it wasn’t always like this. I used to go to the cinema regularly. Those were different times, people were different. They were quiet. They were civilized. Those were the good old days. Even before that, I used VHS rental services. It was a marvelous thing. Actually, both things – the rental store and the VHS tapes themselves – were great. I spent nearly 20 years with them before they vanished. I always met nice people there, because everyone was only interested in themselves and which film to pick for the evening.

And what kind of movies do I like the most? All things zombie, of course! Although some are stupid, shallow, and cheesy, others are very interesting and intriguing, tackling the topic from a different perspective.

However, I won’t be writing about zombies today. I’d like to present you with a list of 20 films that I consider the best, which I’ve managed to watch, and which relate in their themes to various well-known tales, beliefs, or myths. Why are these films so interesting? Each one of them could represent some fragment of truth. But it doesn’t have to! However, each of these films is undoubtedly very good.

So, in order not to play favorites, I’ve arranged them alphabetically. Each of these films has something special, something that makes it worth watching.
