Amidst the junk content, ads, and artificial photos, you can still stumble upon something interesting online. That’s exactly how I found the idea for a walnut shell bird feeder and decided to test it. Result? Birds are delighted!
You only need a few things. Walnuts, a wooden board, and a hot glue gun. Crack the walnuts into two equal halves and glue them onto the board – in any arrangement you like. I also added a roof made of thin plywood to protect the nuts from the rain and the birds from the eyes of predators (to be honest, the roof could be a bit bigger). Thin bamboo perches help the birds land and make it easier for them to peck out the treats.
You can mount the feeder anywhere you want – on a fence, tree, wall, or simply place it on a surface. It’s a great alternative to classic bird feeders, and it looks natural and blends beautifully with the surroundings. I already have ideas for improvements – a small bowl for loose feed or a holder for fat balls under the roof! We’ll see what comes of it!
One last important thing! If you feed the birds, do it regularly. They get used to a constant food source, especially in winter when every gram of energy counts. Consistency is their chance for survival.
