Beautiful weather — if it weren’t for this autumn cold, I’d swear it was summer. Perfect time to keep going with the work in my little garden! The strawberries decided to bloom, just to make my job more pleasant. Very kind of them — they probably have a better heart than some people I know. I wonder if I’ll still get fruit this year, or just hope?
So what did I actually do today? Well, technically I started yesterday, but finished just now. All four tunnels are finally up! Can’t fit more, since the garden is small — about as small as my trust in the weather forecast. The soil is dug over and fertilized. I’m very happy, but also dead tired.
In the mini greenhouse for the pots, I installed the promised mosquito net. Can’t have bugs walking in like they own the place. No mercy. Next step — barbed wire fences, because you never know what lurks behind the fence.
Still left to do: a drip irrigation system. It’ll work in the tunnels, the raised bed, and a dozen pots. The other half of the garden will remain on manual watering duty — that is, the good old hose, watering can, and a few choice swear words. Maybe someday I’ll rig something up, but right now I don’t see it happening.
Sooner or later, winter will come, and the gardening season will end. What will I scribble about on the blog then? Probably I’ll clean up my little tool shed — I call it the chaos chamber, a place where logic dies and screws multiply. Maybe I’ll also sort out my bottlecap collection. There’ll be plenty to write about — even if only so I don’t have to write about the weather.
