Finally, a change in the weather! For now, it’s warm and dry, but the forecast already warns this is just a brief mercy from the heavens. I’m making the most of it before it starts pouring again!
Out of boredom and curiosity, I made myself a test worm tower — that famous worm feeder that’s supposed to spark a revolution in the garden. I bought a half-metre pipe, drilled it full of holes like Swiss cheese, and buried it in the corner where my gooseberries and chokeberries grow. I’m not planning anything there anyway, so the worms might as well have their own nightclub.
For the first round, I tossed in leftovers from the guinea pigs — no, not dead guinea pigs, just the stuff they didn’t want to eat. Fennel, lettuce, pepper, carrot. Added a few banana and watermelon peels, mixed everything with hay and grey cardboard. And voilà! Or as my neighbours over the border would say — fertig! Now I just watch to see if the worms turn it into a compost factory.
My one and only beautiful sunflower is starting to drop its petals. Seed shelling time is coming — the home-grown version of Russian roulette — will you find a seed or not?
And in the garden? A few pots have already been emptied. Good! That’s the way of things. Dug over, fertilised, and waiting for spring. So am I. But with a cup of tea!
