Last week, my wife came up with an unusual idea. We were sitting in the sunshine on the terrace, sipping our coffee, when my better half suddenly said — “Wouldn’t it be great if, besides the grill, we also had a gas stove and some counter space, so I could cook outside?” And as you all know — you don’t have to tell Grzegorz twice!
I spent quite a while trying to figure out where on earth I could squeeze in a stove. I had to evict the rain barrel and a few flower pots, but in the end, they found their way back to roughly the same spots. The roof turned out to be another problem. There’s a reason our grill has a cover on it. I’m starting to suspect my wife did this on purpose, because as she herself claims — “when Grzegorz has nothing to do, he becomes terribly annoying and drives everyone crazy.” Personally, I’ve never noticed that.
Pallets. Good thing I have plenty of those at work. By some strange coincidence, two of them happened to be stored in my emergency zombie apocalypse shelter. I had to give them a good coat of preservative since they’ll be out in the rain. While working, I also discovered that right where the pallets were supposed to go, there was a terrace roof post sticking out. Luckily, it was just a small piece to deal with.
Once I finished working with the pallets, things only got harder and harder — lots of wood, lots of wood preservative, and even more screws and nails! But finally, we now have a grill with a gas stove and a roof over it. We’re still thinking about adding a small countertop. We’ll probably have to say goodbye to our rustic bench on the terrace, but hey — anything for good food!
After running some tests, I can only say one thing — fried zucchini with basil and pepper is absolutely delicious!
