My little garden is my happy place, a project I’ve been working on for the last two years, transforming it into a true oasis full of delicious vegetables. Although the space is limited, I’ve managed to create a wooden deck for relaxing, contemplation, and grilling, as well as a path winding through the beds past huge rhubarb plants and flowering peppers. For autumn and winter, I’m planning further changes, because there’s always room for improvement when you learn from your own mistakes.
Whenever the weather allows, I enjoy this peaceful setting, working in my garden and resting to the sound of birdsong and the rustle of the wind. The plants I grow aren’t just food; they’re also an inspiration, feeding my senses of sight and smell, and stimulating my creativity for writing. To make the most of the space, I’ve put up shelves along the deck and a plant stand against the fence, which helps keep the vegetables out of reach of rodents. I’ve also hung a few pots of strawberries, and this summer I’ve successfully grown various herbs, vegetables, and fruits. Not all the harvests were perfect, but next year will bring new challenges and experiments. I also have plans to find a spot for nasturtiums and carnations.
Although my garden isn’t large or full of extravagant decor, it is my happy place, full of peace and nature. I only have one problem – out of all the variety of birds in the area, only blackbirds visit my garden. I like these birds, but I miss the sparrows, tits, black redstarts, and other species that could add more variety to this place. That’s why I’m planning to build a large, covered bird feeder so they’ll feel safe, especially since birds of prey are known to circle the area. I’ll place the feeder in the most secluded corner of the garden, behind the gooseberry bush, so the birds have easy access to seeds and suet. I’ll also hang a tiny birdhouse there that my son built back in primary school – maybe someone will decide to move in?
If my plans succeed, you’ll soon see videos featuring new avian actors. See you in my little garden, teeming with life!
