Cynical about life, serious about vegetables.

The day I washed a trash can and had an epiphany!

One winter day, I stood in front of my house, scrubbing a garbage bin — when suddenly, genius struck. Why not turn that sad little patch of urban greenery (along with the terrace, empty walls, and windowsills) into a vegetable garden?

This was right at the start of the year. There I was, trash can in hand, staring at pots of last season’s withered flowers and a cluster of utterly useless bushes. What a waste, I thought. That space could be functional — something to give me a little satisfaction!

Now, when I’m washing the bin, I can gaze lovingly at my rhubarb instead. Isn’t that magnificent?

The rhubarb watches me scrub. Judgefully.

Of course, as my wife’s husband, my kids’ dad, and my guinea pigs’ chief snack provider, I’ll never be self-sufficient with such a tiny garden. But that’s not the point! The real goals? A healthier lifestyle, fresh produce to enjoy, and an excuse to soak up the outdoors. Pure bliss.

Oh, and let’s not forget: I’m also acquiring critical zombie apocalypse survival skills. Bonus!
